Guy Creese

Frank,

Google assigned an "Enterprise" name to it by assigning Google Apps Premier Edition to the Enterprise division at Google, which previously had only handled the Google Search Appliance.

Whether SaaS is viewed as unreliable depends on (1) the application and (2) the enterprise. Department-centric SaaS applications, such as sales force automation and web analytics, have less overall impact on the corporation when they go down. While the affected departments may feel significant pain, the rest of the business continues to run. This is not the case in office applications, since e-mail or word processing going down affects virtually the entire company.

Some companies are accepting of applications going down unpredictably as long as they aren't down for too long; others consider that intolerable. It depends on the company culture.
