I'm amazed that you say "Novell’s solutions are weak in their support for the SaaS delivery model". Teaming & Conferencing is entirely web based and Groupwise has an excellent Webaccess module, that is only missing a few features of the offline client. It should be possible to add them and then Groupwise can run entirely off Webaccess too.

Don't forget Groupwise needs a lot less hardware and maintenance than other email servers do, it's a lot cheaper to maintain it. You don't hear about it much but that is because it works so well, no disasters ever make it to the IT news because there aren't any.

It's true that Novell hasn't paid as much attention to Groupwise than they should have. I hope a new vendor will revive it.
