Yes, these are cool features that CMIS may enable. Using SQL SELECT to perform a query is especially interesting.

Making these optional is probably a reasonable compromise to make. At least they are specified in a standard and, should enough CMIS providers or consumers support it, then they can be done consistently.

I agree it would be interesting to see search providers support the use of changelogs (more accurate indexing, less resource drain on CMIS providers, etc.). It is an example of a market dynamic can could be guided (but not demanded) by CMIS.
